| The tactile experience of petting a Cornish Rex cat is one you won't forget. The Rex coat is so exceptionally soft, it has been described as a cross between silk and velvet. The coat forms in beautiful marcel waves, and lies close to it's greyhound-like body. Some breeders will describe these cats as being non-shedding, but that is not exactly true. The Cornish Rex does not have any of the coarse guard hairs, which are present in most other breeds of cats. Guard hairs are the hairs that are most rapidly replaced, which results in noticable shedding. The Cornish Rex does replace hairs, but it occurs so minimally, it may go virtually unnoticed. Because their coat cannot protect them from the elements, keeping them indoors-only as a treasured pet is essential. This breed is naturally inquisitive and active, and should have plenty of things to keep them busy around the house. A tall scratching post will keep them from exercising on your furniture, and will keep you from resorting to the mutilation of declawing. Toys to pounce on and human love are major requirements, but nothing will keep them happier than having another Cornish Rex for company when you can't be there. |
| When contacting me for information on available or upcoming cats or kittens, please help me to get to know you. For example: Why are you interested in the Cornish Rex breed? Are there any allergy issues in the home? Do you have other pets? Are there children in the home, and what are their ages? What type of personality and activity level are you anticipating? What are your thoughts on altering (spay or neuter), declawing, and outside time? How many hours will the cat be alone? Do you have a reputable vet, and can you provide references? Why all the questions? Of course, I am selective, but also because pets are most likely to live out their entire lives with their family, when they are carefully placed in the home that best suits their individual personality. |
